What I ♥ About Christmas | Blogmas 2015

It is safe to say that Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year. But until now, sitting down in front of my laptop, I have never thought about what it is that I love so much. It has been really nice to take some time to write down what makes me happy this time of year.

The Lights

It may seem silly, but ever since I was little I have loved the Christmas lights strung over peoples houses and down the streets. My Mum always used to drive me and my brother about the town at the beginning of December just to look at the houses, whilst 4 year old me would remark 'Mummy, pretty 'ites!'. As we have gotten older, we now enjoy watching the lights get switched on in the town, and watching them twinkle on the tree in our own living room. I think they give such a magical atmosphere, it's one of the small things that I just can't get enough of.

My Family

I am really lucky that I have always gotten on really well with my family. We love spending time together, but as we all have hectic lives we don't see each other nearly as much as we'd like to. I love that at this time of year, we all make time to sit down and laugh and joke with each other. I get to see distant relatives that I have missed all year, and my close family have a great meal and sing carols and play board games. I am very lucky to have the family I do, and getting to enjoy my time with them is a huge love of mine.

The Food

Let's be honest, nobody really likes salad. You can dress it and add croutons, but it really cannot beat a good stew with a thick crusty loaf. And don't even get me started on the baked goods, Add cinnamon to anything and I am almost guaranteed to love it - hell, even sprinkle cinnamon on sprouts and I'll give them a go! It also means that I can pull out my gingerbread recipe, and start work on this year's gingerbread house (if I can get it to stay up!). I may put on a few pound over the Christmas months, but it is so worth it.

The Music

Be it carols or cheesy pop ballads, I will happily listen and sing along to Christmas music as soon as Halloween is over. Yes, that may be early, but there's so much to hear and so little time! I love it when shops start playing Christmas tunes, and a pub full of slightly tipsy villagers singing carols at the top of their lungs is a bitter sweet sound.

The Christmas Cheer

Finally, but probably the best thing of all, is the atmosphere that Christmas gives. Everyone seems so much happier, more generous and friendly, it really restores my faith in other people. Shopping seems a nicer experience, strangers are more inclined to smile at you in the street, and everyone is happy and excited to celebrate with each other. It's just something that I can sense whenever I am out and about and it's so contagious, it can make my mood soar. maybe it has something to do with all the egg nog and mulled wine...

There's so much more that I could list but I think my finger would wear thin before I could finish! Let me know if there is anything that you love and I have missed out in the comments, and I'll speak to you all tomorrow for blogmas day 2!
